How many miles can a honda motorcycle go for from the early 1980's?

I am looking at a honda nighthawk 500 from 1984 with about 45000 miles. How much is a good price for such a bike?|||Maybe $250.00 to $500.00. Depends on maintenance record. At that mileage timing chain is getting a lot worn, drive sprockets and drive chain due to be replaced- but they may have already been replaced. Carbs may need cleaning and rebuild- but again they may have been refurbished under normal 30,000 mile maintenance. Rings good for a few more miles, valves also, maybe another 10,000 miles before top end valve and ring job- or use a little heavier oil. Check clutch- plates may be worn, or been replaced, or maybe Ok if most of cycle miles were on highway. Previous use and maintenance makes a difference|||Depending on the condition, if GOOD, somewhere in the $600 to $1000 range. The only listing I came across was for the '84 650 for $1310. The Nighthawk was first produced in '82 and ran it's course in the 80's up till '86. It came back in 1970 with the 750c.c.also produced the 750s which was not sold in the U.S. It came in 250,450,550,650,and 700. The 400c.c. was produced in the GL400 Touring and the 400 Custom.

Very Good: $1,100

Good: $825

Fair: $450

Poor: N/A|||it's a $500 bike- basically a bic lighter- use it up and throw it away. my rule of thumb is $1 per cc for a pretty well used jap bike, maybe $2 per cc for an exceptional one. ive had two Nighthawks, one of my favorite bikes- the last one was a 450 with 2600 miles on it for $300. i felt that it was worth $1000 when i bought it. that's what i sold it for a few years later with 6000 miles on it.|||Many people have gotten burned on older bikes. The bike must run perfectly when you buy it.

The problem is high parts prices. A carb kit for one carb can be as high as $250.

If you need an alternator, a common problem on older bikes, the cost can be $500.

Coils, 200 each. A PAPER side cover gasket $40.
