How much would it cost to get an original key from a Honda dealership?

I heard of people getting the keys for free. Now just talked to one of their reps and he tells me that it costs $50 or something to cut the key. I am appalled, what kind of customer service is this? Next time I won't be buying a Honda....|||I just had one cut for a 1998 and it did not have a chip in it,and they cut it for $3.00.Call you dealership and give them the Identification number and they can look it up to see if it has a chip if not go to your local hardware store or lock store. If it does have a chip it will run you 35-50 dollars, but I betcha it doesn't have a chip, take my advice and check it out the least it will cost is 3 bucks the most maybe 50 bucks and a phone call will give you piece of mind.Good luck|||Well keys have a chip in them to for security reasons that's why it costs so much to have them duplicated.|||if there is a wal*mart near you / they make all kinds of keys/ next to nothing. i think about a $1.00. i work at a wal*mart. and if you have one of those things that you mash to automatically unlocks the doors on your automobiles, and it needs batteries/ go to wal*mart jewelery dept. and get them and they are $3.69.|||Newer Honda keys are laser cut. This is a theft deterant. Cheap insurance against key copiers who want to steal your car. You'll pay $50-70 for a new key, but no one can take it, copy it, replace it and steal your car.|||that's cheap, they wanted 95 dollars for an extra key to my ford truck.i almost died.but you can't get one made anywhere else.|||i had to go to the factory to get a key for the volvo because no one could make one and it cost 139.00 so dont get a volvo|||Your key most likely has a computer chip in it to help protect against theft. My wifes Ford was like that. We had copies made a walmart which started the engine just fine but if you tried to unlock the door with it the alarm went off because there was no chip in the key
