I bought a new honda civic 2008 in December. I have been driving it for three weeks and found that my MPG was way below its estimation. City is around 14 and highway is around 22. Although i am not expecting the same number as in the specification, it shouldn't be that much different. Any one has the same problem? Should i bring my car to the dealer to check it?|||Woah. Before you go back to the dealer put some more miles on the car. How have you been driving it? Did you read the owners manual on proper operation when it is new? An engine --even a Honda (the jewels they are)-- has a break in period. If you don't drive 200 miles a day, there is no way your engine is run in yet. The rings are seating, the valves are getting worn in. Give it 5,000 to 10,000 miles (again depending on your driving. If you drive all highway it takes longer as the engine is working easier) before you go to the dealer. Your mileage will increase, and usually Civics beat the EPA highway milage.|||It might have something to do with your driving style. If you make sudden stops, quick starts, and have too low tire pressure the car will get less MPG.
Also if you drive in mostly in the heavy traffic (city or highway) that will greatly decrease your MPG.|||That is well below factory estimates. Just because you are that far below MPG estimates doesn't mean that you are having a problem with your car. Are you a fast driver? Do you accelerate quickly? Do you do alot of stop and go driving? All of these can dramatically reduce mileage.|||25 mpg city / 36 mpg hwy
You should probably let the dealer or a mechanic check it out, there may be extra friction somewhere, also check your tires and make sure they are properly inflated.|||lol! that because of the way you are driving your car there's nothing wrong when they say 35 mpg city that is the MAX potential your car than have..so that means you must basically keep the rpm between 1-2 which means you must not press the gas fast or make hard stops. it's normal thought you are not a perfect driver to get the potential..you can fix it by driving a little eaiser..treat the car as your baby|||30 prolly|||36 i guess
